Graphs by Employment Stages
For each YE Indicator, see the impact employment stages have on the region and period selected. Employment Stages are defined by the number of employees: Self-Employed (1), Stage 1 (2-9), Stage 2 (10-99), Stage 3 (100-499), Stage 5 (500+).
The growth chart depicts the average annual percentage change (from the first to last year selected) within each stage. The composition chart shows the make-up of stages (each stage's share of total estabs/jobs/sales), so percentages add up to 100%.
To provide a sharper lens on establishment growth, job creation and sales,YE sorts data into 13 indicators (YE Indicators). The defaut indicator is "All," which shows the impact of all establishments for a selected geographic region and time period. Establishment Type (Resident, Nonresident, Noncommercial, External, and Local) look specifically at different types of companies. Establishment Activity (Expansions, Contractions, New Startups, Expansion Startups, Closings, Move In, and Move Out) analyze various kinds of establishment activity. The percentage indicator is average annual change.
YE INDICATORS reflects the total change in establishments, jobs, or sales for the region and period selected.
ALL: Total number of establishments, jobs, or sales.
RESIDENT: Establishments that are either standalone or report to a headquarters in the same state.
NONRESIDENT: Establishments that have headquarters out-of-state.
NONCOMMERCIAL: Government agencies, educational institutions, post offices, religious, and other nonprofit organizations.
EXPANSIONS: Establishments that have grown due to jobs expansion.
NEW STARTUPS: New startups with a new DUNS number and no affiliation to an existing business.
EXPANSION STARTUPS: Startups with a new DUNS number spun off by an existing business.
MOVE IN: Establishments and jobs that have moved in to this region due to relocation.
EXTERNAL MARKET: Establishments that sell goods and services to regions and countries beyond their local area.
LOCAL MARKET: Establishments that sell goods and services within their local area.
