Your definitive source of economic data about business establishments, jobs, and sales across the United States
The data seen on YE is assembled from the YTS (Your-economy Time Series) annual establishment-level time-series database used by academic researchers, policy makers, and economic development analysts following companies at their unique locations across the U.S. YTS tracks all establishments (and their jobs and sales), including for-profit (both privately- owned and publicly-traded), non-profits, and government establishments.
Youreconomy.org (YE) lets you explore and learn why longitudinal establishment-level data is important if you really want to know about your economic community. The YE Dashboard lets you discover your location's business profile and compare profiles from one year to another.
Each Key Indicator you select on YE will have an explanation of what you are viewing. So, what are you waiting for? Go explore your economy!
Getting your hands on the right data has never been more important. Numbers provide perspective, eliminate guesswork, speed decision-making - and enhance the quality of those decisions.
YE can help policy makers, economic development professionals and entrepreneurship advocates, and researchers in a variety of ways. It reveals a more granular view of business activity in their regions and shows how their communities compare to others. It can identify important trends and provide relevant information to support economic-growth initiatives.
A peer review of YTS discovered that during the period 2011-2012 Infogroup (YTS data provider) introduced a large number of pre-verified or "suspect" establishments that had previously not been in any of their databases. This significantly effected the actual year start date of these establishments as most were coded with a 2011 or 2012 start date when they could have started anytime from 1997.
Based on these changes, starting with YTS 2017, most of the pre-verified or suspect data files are no longer included due to the year start date not being reliably determined. This resulted in significantly fewer establishments but with greater intent on conducting business throughout the entire database.
Births and Deaths: Infogroup added a new verification source which effectively upgraded a larger proportion of pre-verified and suspect records to the verified file. The result was a significant increase in both births and deaths for 2018.
